Server Setup

In order to use HTML5 video embedding, some easy server configuration is required, allowing files to be served with the correct MIME types. This is a one-time setup for each domain, and does NOT need to be repeated when creating new galleries for your site. You will need a text-editor and an FTP client. If you are unfamiliar with File Transfer Protocol or FTP clients, please read my tutorial An Introduction to FTP: Putting Your Stuff Online .

At the root of your domain, create a .htaccess file or edit the existing .htaccess file to include the following:

AddType video/ogg .ogv
AddType video/mp4 .mp4
AddType video/webm .webm

SetEnvIfNoCase Request_URI \.(og[gav]|mp4|m4a|webm)$ no-gzip dont-vary

The .htaccess file may be invisible when viewing your server contents. In your FTP preferences, ensure the FTP client is setup to show hidden files.
